For the past few months I’ve been diligently planning the details of my younger sister’s bridal shower. She decided on a garden theme waffle brunch with gold accents for a little glitz. My nights have been spent gluing, folding, sewing, cutting, and re-gluing; I’ve got Band-Aids on multiple fingers, broken nails, and glitter everywhere. The shower went off without a hitch this past Sunday so I can finally start blogging about all the shower plans and DIY décor. One of my favorite items I made for her bridal shower is [Read more…]
DIY Calming Glitter Jar
I’ve been looking for a way to help calm my 2-year-old son when his temper gets the best of him. About 7 years ago a family member made this DIY Calming Glitter Jar for her daughter to serve the same purpose. I made a mental note to give it a try when my own child came along, you know if I needed it.
Fast forward 7 years, the terrible twos in full swing, and I’ve quickly learned that toddler tantrums are tough to deal with. When your crazed child is [Read more…]
DIY Fall Flower Crowns
It’s officially one of my favorite times of the year: fall!
Since we live in Florida, the fall season is basically nonexistent. The seasons don’t really change here. Sometimes, if we’re lucky, we’ll get a beautiful day with low humidity and a light breeze. Those are the days it feels like fall.
So we do other things to make it feel like fall. Like filling every room with fall decor and pumpkin scented candles. It’s okay, we’re used to it. That’s why when temperatures actually dip below 80 we jump at the chance to wear a cargo jacket and boots, maybe even a scarf.
This fall season I have been inspired to make a fall flower crown. They’re the perfect accessory for a day at the pumpkin patch or a fall festival. It’s super easy to make and you can get most of the materials at the Dollar Tree.
Nerdy Wedding Ceremony Ideas
If you haven’t noticed by now, I am getting married this year. It’s less than 3 months away and while we’ve been planning nonstop, there’s always more to do. One important thing to do is plan the wedding ceremony.
My fiance – Nate – and I are both super nerdy and want to incorporate that into our wedding. One place we want to incorporate more nerdiness is in the ceremony. An obvious choice is a quote or reading but my concern has always been the unity ceremony.
Most unity ceremony ideas I’ve seen are of the standard garden variety. I have yet to find one that incorporates any kind of nerd-flare. Needless to say, I’ve been brainstorming for a while. For us, our 3 biggest fandoms are Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Dr. Who. So anything we do has to incorporate one of those.
DIY Recycling Center
I always do my best to recycle or reuse as much as possible, in hopes that maybe I can make a difference in the way that our society consumes and discards resources, materials, and objects. I’m a firm believer that waste doesn’t always have to be wasted. Recycling and reusing the products we consume not only helps the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but also helps save money, energy, and natural resources.
My favorite things to save and reuse are [Read more…]
DIY Custom Fridge Magnets
Do you ever see something at the store and think “I can make that”? I literally do that all the time and everyone always rolls their eyes because… can I really make that? Well over the weekend mom and I saw a really cute Christmas ornament and I said my signature catchphrase.
When I started explaining how we could actually make the ornament, I realized I’ve made something very similar before.I was instantly brought back to my days in the National Art Honor Society in High School. Back then we were making locker magnets and selling them to classmates, trying to raise money for art supplies.
Now it’s a fun little project for a rainy day. Make adorable emoji magnets or funky letters to arrange on the fridge.
DIY Cars Theme Cake Pop Stand
We just celebrated my son’s 2nd birthday a few weeks ago, which was perfectly themed “Cars.” He’s a typical little boy who loves anything with 4 wheels! After spending months of planning his 1st birthday party, I decided to make the second-year celebration a little more low key. So, this time around I bought most of the decorations instead of making them. I was able to find a lot of the Cars themed party décor at Party City and Walmart (which you can check out below). The one party décor item I made was this DIY Cars Theme Cake Pop Stand. J loves cake pops from Starbucks (a horrible thing I blame myself for) so I decided on cake pops this year instead of a cake.
Don’t be intimidated by the all the steps, it’s actually quite [Read more…]
3 Step DIY Distressed Picture Frame
Lately, I have been all about DIY – I’m planning my wedding and it seems like there’s always something to DIY. This week, it’s a picture frame that’s part of a larger project (more info to come later). But you don’t have to be planning a wedding to appreciate this DIY.
You can easily buy a distressed picture frame from TJMAXX or Ross but where’s the fun in that? This simple DIY takes any old wooden frame and gives it a rustic, coastal feel.
3 Easy Meat Rubs
Everything in my life requires simplicity, and meal prep and cooking are no exceptions! Simple rubs for meat, chicken, or fish are the perfect way to add flavor to your meals without a lot of fuss.
These rubs can be pre-mixed and stored in an airtight container for up to 2 to 3 months–preferably away from light and heat. Use about 2 Tablespoons per pound of meat, chicken, or fish. Pat on evenly. Put on at least 30 minutes prior to cooking or grilling.
10 DIY Summer Popsicles
Hot Florida summer days call for some major cool down tactics around my house. My tiny toddler works up a major sweat running around the park and blowing bubbles in the backyard. DIY Summer Popsicles are an easy and healthy way to cool down overheated children without feeling guilty about [Read more…]
10 Ways to Reuse Newspaper
Plastic-free July is coming to an end, and I’m happy to report that I did pretty well at eliminating single-use plastic products from my life. I slipped a few times by using plastic shopping bags, and a couple of times I didn’t use my reusable cup when I went for coffee.
DIY Harry Potter Wedding Cake Topper
In just a few short months I am getting married! I have been working on all kinds of DIY projects for the big event. Since it’s a barn wedding, we’re going for the rustic feel with touches of our love for all of things nerdy. [Read more…]
DIY Makeup Remover Wipes
I’ve been wanting to try making my own DIY makeup remover wipes for a while now. Meagan has used DIY baby wipes for little J since he was a baby and I always thought that DIY Makeup remover wipes would be a great idea. Not only are they beneficial for the environment, but they also save a lot of money.
Plastic-free July finally got me motivated to make the switch to these wipes. The other day I was pulling out a makeup wipe from its packaging, and I realized I’d cut down on a lot of plastic use if I eliminated that package from my life (not to mention the wipes themselves, of course).
I came up with this easy to make DIY makeup remover wipe because, if you’ve read any of my other posts, you know I’m all about simple and easy.
