Happy Mother’s Day to all the tired, hardworking moms out there. As I’ve gotten older and have since had a child of my own, I’ve come to appreciate my mom in a way only a fellow mom can. I never really understood the magnitude of being a mom until my son was born. The act alone of carrying a child is a feat in and of itself. And everything after birth, well it’s just the icing on the cake…most of the time :).
For all that moms do, the cooking and cleaning, the nurturing and disciplining, they also inspire us to be great and to follow our dreams no matter how big or small. Let’s just day there’s some extra-heavy shoulder weight that comes with being a mom.
Sure, when we’re young it’s all fun and games as mom wipes our butt, sucks buggers from our nose, and teaches us to color. Then we age and learn to wee on the toilet by ourselves because mom taught us. They buy school clothes, make lunches, and help with homework. They teach us to value ourselves and respect others alike. When the time comes, they teach us about the birds and the bees and hug us when our hearts get broken.
Being a mom is a tall order, being a good mom is hard work and sometimes a thankless job.
It’s important that we cherish our moms every day but especially on Mother’s Day. There are a dozen ways to show the moms in your life how much you care. Most find that showing love and gratitude in the form of a well-written card and a gift can express their true appreciation.
When you’re a child you make coupons for free hugs and foot rubs. Those don’t fly when you’re an adult with a full-time job so check out my list of Mother’s Day Gifts and mom is sure to smile this Mother’s Day.
