3 Tips on How To Be a Thoughtful Gift Giver
I’m always amazed when I hear about the impractical, silly, or downright thoughtless gifts some of my friends have received. I’m talking about the same restaurant gift card 5 years in a row for people who rarely eat out. Or beautiful pierced earrings for a woman without pierced ears. Or the loud musical instrument for a child whose parents clearly disapproved of the “gift”! Those are the kind of gifts that leave a person wondering “What were they (the gift giver) thinking?” The thing is, they probably weren’t thinking. It doesn’t mean they’re a bad person, they probably just haven’t practiced how to be a thoughtful gift giver. And who’s gonna tell them they’re gifts are [Read more…]
What I’ve been Loving Lately
Living in a van for 3 months can definitely change a person. Being home for a week though, I’ve already fallen back into some old habits. I guess some habits never really die. And one of those is my love for shopping!
Being back from a long trip in which you can’t really shop because you have no place to put anything (and can’t realistically afford) makes all the difference. Now we’re home, making adjustments, and changes to the van. So, I can remove some things I really didn’t need or use on the road – thus making room for some new stuff.
There are also some things I have been loving for a while now since being on the road and I just want to share them with you!
22 Ways to Avoid Plastic Shopping Bags
Plastic shopping bags are a huge threat to our environment. Their impact is widespread- from the energy it takes to produce the plastic to the pollution they cause on land and sea. Yet they’re still one of the most used single-use convenience plastics. If these are items you’d like to eliminate (or cut back on), here are 22 Ways to Avoid Plastic Shopping Bags. [Read more…]
Shopping Addictions and Target Wish list
Last week I wrote a post all about learning to let go – let go of all my stuff since I’m trying to downsize for my upcoming van life adventure. I wrote about how this is a serious struggle for me, not only because I tend to assign a sentimental value to a lot of things – but also because I love to shop. I didn’t emphasize that as much last week because I am working on it. But have to admit, I’m definitely a bit of a shopaholic.
Drugstore Makeup Haul
If you follow us on Instagram (you totally should), you may have seen my post last week about my little shopping haul at my local Walgreens drugstore that’s closing. All the makeup is 50% off! (I ended up going back and getting more makeup.)
For the past few months, I’ve really been trying to cut down on my makeup addiction. I canceled my Ipsy subscription and I haven’t been shopping for makeup unless I need it. As in, I use it every day and buy more when I’m out.
So when I saw that all of the Walgreens makeup was 50% off, I was at a loss. Part of me thought – you don’t need it, don’t buy it. Another part of me thought – I’m going traveling soon and I won’t have a lot of money. I have the money now, I’ll need this makeup eventually when I run out, so why not get it while it’s super cheap??
Tips for Shopping with Toddlers
I love to shop! Anyone who knows me, knows I’m good for an all-day shopping spree. All I need is a comfortable pair of shoes, a chai tea latte from Starbucks, and a bag of my new favorite snack, Bare Cinnamon Banana Chips, and I can easily wander the aisles of Target for 5 hours. Sometimes longer if it’s Christmas! If you think about it, toddlers are the same way. They need to be comfortable and happy just like mommy if you’re going to avoid an all-out public tantrum (I’ve been there). You’re probably not going to make it through a shopping trip unscathed if your child is hungry, tired, bored, or thirsty. So be prepared. Stuff your diaper bag, purse, pockets, shoes— wherever you can fit a toy car and a bag of snacks—cross your fingers, and pray for the best. [Read more…]
