Valentine’s Day school parties are the perfect opportunity for kids to express their creativity and individuality. If your child loves soccer, making a soccer-themed Valentine’s Day box is a fun and unique way to collect all those Valentine’s cards and goodies from classmates. Follow this step-by-step guide to craft a sporty DIY Soccer Valentine’s Box that’s sure to be a hit!
My 9-year-old son has been playing soccer for a long time. When he was about 3 years he started the Happy Feet League where they concentrated on teaching young kids basic soccer skills and then do a fun scrimmage and the end of practice. At three, my son was more interested in jumping in the muddy puddles that accumulated on the field after a big rainstorm. He was adorable in his muddied full uniform, cleats, and shin guards. Fast-forward a few years, he is still adorable but there’s far less jumping in muddy puddles and way more trick shot practices!
In this blog post, you’ll find a tutorial for a DIY Soccer Valentine’s Box

To get started, gather the following materials:
A medium-sized box: A shoebox, tissue box, or any sturdy cardboard box will work.
Green card stock paper: To cover the top of the box and create a soccer field effect.
Black or Brown card stock paper: To cover the bottom half of the of the box.
White paint pens or Chalkboard Pen: For the soccer field markings.
Bottle Caps to make slidable soccer balls: To decorate the box and emphasize the theme.
Scissors or a craft knife: For cutting the box and materials.
Hot Glue Gun or double-sided tape: To attach decorations.
Soccer ball printable patterns: To add soccer-themed accents.
Markers, stickers, or foam letters: For personalizing the box with your child’s name.
10 Straws: To make the goalpost.
White Yarn: To wrap around the straws and make a goal.
Optional decorations: Glitter, small toy soccer players, or Valentine-themed embellishments.

Assembly
Prepare the Box
Start by cutting a circular slot on the top of the box right in front of where the goal will be placed. Make sure the slot is big enough to fit the bottle caps.

Next, cut a rectangular slot on the side of the box for cards to be dropped in. Make sure the slot is big enough to fit Valentine’s cards of various sizes.
Wrap the Box
Cover the sides of the box with black or brown construction paper and then the top of the box with green paper to resemble a soccer field. Use hot glue, rubber cement, or double-sided tape to secure the paper.
Ensure the card slot remains accessible by cutting through the paper covering it.
Create the Soccer Field Lines
Use a white paint pen, chalkboard marker, or paint to add field markings. For example, create a center circle, penalty box lines, and goal areas. Keep it simple to maintain a clean look. Cut a hole in the top (in front of where the net will be) to slide goals into. Make the circle larger than a bottle cap.
Assemble the Goal
You’ll need about 8-10 white or clear straws to make 1 goal. Cut the straws accordingly:
2 – 5″ pieces
2 -2″ pieces
4 – 3.5″ pieces
Use hot glue to connect the straws so they resemble a goal then attach white yarn in a crisis cross pattern to resemble the net.
Decorate with Soccer Elements
