Directions:
- Pour baking soda on your tray or cookie sheet and give it a quick shake to spread it out evenly.
- Using liquid food coloring, allow your child to add as many drops all over the baking soda.
- Next, pour 1 cup of vinegar into a cup. Use a dropper to add vinegar right over the food coloring droplets and watch the reaction between the baking soda and vinegar. It makes a fun fizzing rainbow.
Talk to your child about the simple science behind this fun Fizzing Rainbow Baking Soda Experiment. The simplest idea behind it is an acid-base reaction. Baking soda is a bicarbonate and vinegar is an acetic acid. When combined, they create a carbon dioxide gas—which produce colorful fizzing bubbles in this experiment!
