Looking for the best way to spend your Fall night with your family and friends? Nothing beats a cozy outdoor movie night in your own backyard. Don’t let the lack of supplies put a damper on your plans. “The Best Outdoor Movie Night Essentials” has you covered. Here you will find everything you need to make the most of your movie night, from projectors to speakers to even bean bag chairs. So grab a big blanket, some friends and family, and get ready to watch a movie under the stars.

Outdoor movie nights are one of my favorite ways to get some quality family time in. In the summers, we usually make a day and night of the entire event. We might start the day on the inflatable water slide or head to the pool for a few hours. Followed by a picnic lunch and more water fun. We get out the water balloons, outdoor games, and snacks and then set up fun obstacles in the backyard. If needed, we take a short nap or break just before dinner. After dinner, we grab our favorite blankets, popcorn, and snacks and settle into our comfy spots for a special outdoor movie showing.

If you are looking for a fun way to connect with your neighbors, consider hosting a backyard movie night. It’s a fun way for the adults and kids to get to know each other. If you’re already close with your neighbors then it’s a great excuse to spend a relaxing summer evening together. And if you’re not sure what you need for your movie night, this post has everything you need.

Most of the items on this list are my go-to Outdoor Movie Night Essentials. There are a few new things I’ve added and I can’t wait for them to arrive. This new mosquito repellent is going to be a game-changer. I’m really excited to try it out, especially after having an accidental spillage at our last outdoor movie night! I think this will be safer. And my husband is going to love the foil hot dog wrappers. Something about them just screams nostalgia.

The Best Outdoor Movie Night Essentials

Bluetooth Projector

It’s summertime and your bellies are full, that sweet tooth is slowly setting in and you’re gearing up for the show. Sit back and enjoy a movie night under the stars with this awesome mini Bluetooth projector. You can easily connect a TV stick or laptop, a Bluetooth speaker, and start streaming your favorite movie!

Projector Stand

The projector stand is super convenient for outdoor movie nights, especially when you’re running out of table space. The adjustable height is nice, and it’s easy to set up in front of or behind the seating.

Inflatable Screen

This inflatable screen is a must-have for outdoor movie nights. It comes with everything you need, including a pump, storage bag, and an anchor kit. The best part is that it’s so easy to set up and tear down. You can spend more time enjoying the movie and less time fussing with the equipment.

Mosquito Repellent

Mosquitoes can make or break your outdoor movie night, so it’s vital to prepare. I tried to find the perfect bug-repellent product, but nothing on its own really worked. So I developed a strategy to combine multiple products to get the best result. I use sprays, wristbands, torches, homemade repellents, and citronella candles, and I’ve recently added this rechargeable mosquito diffuser. With all of these products working together, I hope we have less bug bites on those late summer nights.

This is a great alternative.

Retro Popcorn Machine

Dash Pop Corn Maker

If you’re going to host a movie night, popcorn is an absolute must. That’s why I have two popcorn machines on this list: one for the little family get-togethers and one for the bigger parties with neighbors and friends. I’d recommend using the Dash Pop Corn Maker for the former and the retro-style popcorn machine for the latter. The retro machine makes more popcorn and looks cool, which can make your movie night special.

Popcorn Seasonings

Want to spice up your movie night snack? This popcorn seasoning kit has everything you need to add a bit of extra flavor to your popcorn. With flavors like garlic parmesan, fiery pepper, white cheddar, creamy chives, and salted butter, you’re sure to find a new favorite.

Popcorn & Drink Movie Box

I absolutely love these authentic movie theater drinks and popcorn trays. They make the whole experience of movie watching so fun for kids. Just add the popcorn!

Outdoor Bean Bag Chair

Outdoor Bean Bag Chair

These adorable outdoor bean bag chairs are great for kids but also big enough for adults to sit and enjoy an outdoor movie. They’re also great for added seating when you don’t quite have enough chairs. They’re made to leave outside and easy to wipe clean because you know someone is spilling something!

Rolling Cart Cooler

What backyard movie wouldn’t be complete with this adorable rolling cooler? It has a cute retro vibe that looks great on the patio for any outdoor gathering. It opens on both sides and fits over 100 cans or 55 bottles making it perfect for large parties both indoors and outdoors.

Snack Lazy Susan

This lazy susan tray is perfect for your movie snacks. You can load up one or two of these with your family’s favorite movie snacks and set them on a table. Just give it a spin and choose your favorite item!

Rolling Snack Cart

This portable rolling cart makes the perfect snack caddy, making it one of my favorite Outdoor Movie Night Essentials. You can load it up with water bottles, sodas, candy boxes, and chips. You can also add your hotdogs, popcorn seasonings, and other movie night essentials.

Stanley Cup Snack Tray

If you have a Stanley in your house, this is a must-have! This little silicone snack tray fits over top and allows you to enjoy your favorite snacks and drinks. You can also use it in the car for fast food pit stops or for just about any other outdoor gathering.

Snack Organizer

This storage container is awesome for snacks! We take it everywhere with us: beach trips, car trips, boating, even outside at home. It’s the best for a variety of snacks when not everyone likes the same thing. The silicone trays are removable and easy to wash. Two handles that pop up and make it easy to carry.

Chilled Condiment/Snack Caddy

This chilled serving tray is the perfect size for chopped fruits and vegetables. It’s small enough that it’s easy to manage but big enough to hold a decent amount of food. I love using it on hot summer days, especially when I’m hosting outdoor parties. It keeps everything chilled and cool, so you can relax and enjoy your time with your guests.

Now Showing Movie Night Chalkboard Sign

This chalkboard Now Showing movie sign is a must-have for Outdoor Movie Night! The kids will love it and it adds the cutest touch of fun to your movie night! It comes with chalkboard markers and a stand!

Foil Hot Dog Wrappers

Foil hot dog wrappers are a recent purchase that I’ve been eyeing for a while. Something so small and inexpensive can up your game as of host of Outdoor Movie Night. You can stuff a handful and set out in the rolling cart with the rest of the snacks. They keep the hot dogs safe from bugs, warm, and ready to eat.

Inflatable Kids Mattress

I love this children’s inflatable mattress! It’s one of my favorites for the kids to lie on while they watch the movie! They used to sit in chairs but were always getting up and trying to get more comfortable so I decided to try a mattress instead and it’s definitely a game changer. They can relax with their pillows and blankets and get more comfortable. And if they happen to fall asleep it’s so easy to scoop them right up and carry to bed!

Honorable Mentions

Bottle Bash Outdoor Game

Bottle Bash has been our favorite outdoor game for the past 3 summers. This game is great for kids and adults. It’s lightweight, comes with a travel bag, and it’s under $40. It’s a fun game to bring to the beach, the park or just to set up in your backyard! Pro Tip: We added a second frisbee to the game because it can be a little hard for kids to get knock the bottles off.

Most of the items on this list are my go-to Outdoor Movie Night Essentials. There are a few new things I’ve added and I can’t wait for them to arrive.
