DIY Valentine’s Day Footprint Cards are a meaningful holiday card for any parent, relative, or friend. They’re also fun to create! Even for young babies, finger painting is a great sensory development tool that allows baby to feel and experiment with colors, which helps develop creativity and thinking skills.

Valentine’s Day is the perfect holiday for you and your child to explore your creative sides with some homemade colorful greeting cards

The Valentine’s Day Footprint Cards that I’ve created below is one for Dad. With your help, your child can give a sentimental, heartfelt piece of footprint art that will be cherished for years to come.

What you need:

Green, Orange, Yellow, White, Brown, Red, and Blue Crayola Washable Kids Paint (Amazon or Target)

Paint Brushes (Target)

White Doodle Paper (Target or Walmart)

Black Sharpie

2 Paper plates

Wet paper towel and dry paper towel

Step 1

Drop a dollop of green or orange (depending on which card you’re making) craft paint onto the paper plate. I chose green and orange because I wanted to replicate John Deere and CAT tractors. Next, dip baby’s (or toddler’s) foot into the green or orange paint, making sure the entire bottom of the foot is coated. Then, press baby’s foot onto the blank piece of paper. Quickly wipe the bottom of baby’s foot and dry (this is where having your pre-wet paper towel comes in handy)! You can also run them to sink if you’re close.

*Let your paint dry for an hour or so and then move onto the next step.

Step 2

Once the paint was dry, I cut my paper into 5 X 7 cards. Next, using your Sharpie, draw the wheels, cab, tractor arm, and the tractor bucket. Using blue craft paint and a fine tip brush, draw Daddy in the cab. To make a “skin” color, use brown or mix yellow and white together and paint on Daddy’s face and hands. Next, draw a hat on Daddy with a fine tip brush and red paint. Using your Sharpie, draw eyes, and a mouth on Daddy.

Step 3

Write your love note at the top or bottom. I wrote Happy Valentine’s Day Daddy- I DIG You. Don’t forget to write your child’s name and the year somewhere on the card. If they’re old enough to write, have them write out the note and their name to make the card a little extra special!
