The laundry room might not be the most glamorous room in the house, but it’s definitely one of the hardest-working. With the right setup, what often feels like a never-ending chore can become a little more efficient—and maybe even enjoyable! Whether you’re designing a new laundry area or looking to refresh the one you already have, here are some of my favorite laundry room essentials that will make wash day a breeze.

A well-organized laundry room can make even the most tedious chores feel a little more enjoyable. Whether you have a full laundry room or a compact laundry nook, the right essentials can help keep things neat, efficient, and even stylish.
If you’re not sure where or how to start when it comes to revamping your laundry room, start with the basics. The items I love most in my laundry room are my collapsible baskets. They fold flat when not in use but pop up easily when it’s laundry day.
My second favorite items are the glass bottles that I store detergents and stain removers in- all within reach, refillable, and labeled to give my shelves a clean, cohesive look.
In this blog post, you’ll find a list of my favorite Laundry Room Essentials
Things to Consider When Choosing the Laundry Room Essentials
Laundry Room Essentials
Vanilla Essential Oil
Essential oils aren’t just for diffusers—they can be a wonderful addition to your laundry routine too. A few drops of lavender, lemon, or eucalyptus oil can make your clothes smell fresh and clean without the artificial fragrances found in many detergents.
Tip: Mix essential oils with white vinegar in a glass spray bottle to create an all-natural fabric refresher or surface cleaner for your laundry room.
Wool Dryer Balls
If you haven’t tried wool dryer balls yet, they’re a total game-changer for laundry day. These little spheres help soften clothes naturally, reduce drying time, and cut down on static—all without the chemicals found in traditional dryer sheets.
Tip: Add a few drops of essential oil to dryer balls just before popping them in the dryer to make your clothes smell even fresher when they come out of the dryer.
Collapsible Laundry Baskets
If your laundry room is short on space, a collapsible laundry basket is a total game-changer. Unlike bulky traditional baskets, these fold down flat when not in use, making them perfect for small laundry rooms, apartments, or dorms. They’re lightweight yet sturdy enough to carry a full load of clothes from the washer to the dryer—or even across the house.
Magentic Lint Bin
It’s a simple touch, but having a designated spot for dryer lint, tags, and empty detergent boxes keeps your laundry room from getting messy. I love this magnetic one from Amazon– it fits perfectly on the side of the dryer.
Laundry Sorter with Shelf
Having a good system for sorting clothes makes all the difference. These divided hampers help separate lights, darks, and delicates before you even hit the washing machine. Bonus points if they have handles or wheels for easy carrying. This one from Target also has a convenient shelf, which provides additional storage for laundry essentials or can be used for folding clothes.
Storage Containers
Detergents, scent beads, and dryer sheets should be stored up high and safely away from little hands. This convenient set on Amazon comes with 4 acrylic bins and wooden lids, 3 scoops, and 14 waterproof labels. You can also store clothespins, dryer balls, and small accessories – keeping everything tidy and organized. If you use liquid detergent rather than pods, try this glass dispenser.
Glass Spray Bottles
Glass spray bottles are a smart and eco-friendly addition to any laundry room. They’re perfect for mixing and storing your own stain removers, fabric fresheners, or simple solutions like vinegar and water. Unlike plastic bottles, glass doesn’t absorb odors or chemicals, which means your sprays stay fresher and safer to use. Don’t forget to label your bottles so you can grab exactly what you need without the guesswork.
Over-the-door Clothes Drying Rack
Not all of your laundry items should go in the dryer. A foldable drying rack or mounted drying rod gives you space to air-dry your delicates, sweaters, and items that need a little extra care and less heat.
Clothes Steamer
A basic iron, an ironing board, or a handheld steamer can keep your clothes looking fresh and wrinkle-free. If you don’t have much space, consider a compact steamer that tucks away easily.
