If you’re a person who considers themselves to be environmentally conscious, then you’re probably someone who looks for new ways to reduce your environmental footprint. If you’re like me and have adopted a lot of good personal environmental practices like drastically reducing household chemical usage as well as eliminating single-use plastic products, then you’re looking even deeper at your habits. Maybe you’ve found your environmental hot spots. In other words, maybe you’ve discovered some of your personal environmentally unfriendly indulgences. I’ve discovered one of mine. And I [Read more…]
Teach Your Child How to Call 911
The past few months I’ve been teaching my 3-year-old the alphabet. During the letter N week, we worked on numbers, specifically on how to call 911 in case of an emergency.
If your child has a clear understanding of numbers and letters, they’re probably at the perfect age to start learning what to do in the event of an emergency. In conjunction with learning how to call 911—on my smartphone—I’m also teaching little J how to call Mommy or Daddy in case of an emergency. [Read more…]

How to Create a Calm Space
What do you do when you’re having a stressful day? Where do you go? What do you want?
Lately, I’ve been noticing energy everywhere I go. When I walk into a house or a room I notice it – the positive or negative vibes from people or a space. Sometimes there are really calm and relaxing energies and other times I’ve encountered negative energies. It’s hard when you find yourself in a place with negative vibes because you just want to get away from it. It creates a sense of uneasiness or even stress. [Read more…]
Summer Tailgate Essentials
Have I mentioned before how much I love the Dave Matthews Band? Every year my husband and I go see them on tour, and one of the best parts is the tailgate! Tailgating before a concert or sporting event is such a great time to be social and hang out with friends and family. It’s the time for food, games, and drinking.
What I’ve been Loving Lately
Living in a van for 3 months can definitely change a person. Being home for a week though, I’ve already fallen back into some old habits. I guess some habits never really die. And one of those is my love for shopping!
Being back from a long trip in which you can’t really shop because you have no place to put anything (and can’t realistically afford) makes all the difference. Now we’re home, making adjustments, and changes to the van. So, I can remove some things I really didn’t need or use on the road – thus making room for some new stuff.
There are also some things I have been loving for a while now since being on the road and I just want to share them with you!
Letter A Lesson Plan for Preschoolers
About 2 months ago I started teaching my 2 (almost 3) year old son the alphabet. At first, I thought singing the alphabet song over and over would get him interested but that was a big fail. Every time I’d start to sing he would say, “stop mommy, stop singing!” Ultimately, I decided on a different approach— the letter of week strategy.
Starting with the letters in his name, each week I concentrate on [Read more…]
Top 5 Favorite Travel Destinations – East Coast Edition
For the past, almost 3 months, my husband and I and our dog have been traveling in a van around the United States. We built out a conversion van to suit long-term traveling and that’s what we’ve been doing.
One of the most common questions we get is “Where was your favorite?” It’s so hard to answer because we’ve been so many places! But there are definitely a few stand out destinations. They’re all places I’d love to come back to and highly recommend a visit.
We’re currently safe and sound in Florida but by no means finished with our trip. The plan was always to come home in July to visit and see some concerts. Thank goodness this was our plan because we needed to regroup and charge the batteries. Then, after some modifications and lots of rest, we’re getting back in the van and heading out west and we will have more favorites for you!
How to Dispose of Unused Medications
Having raised three kids and cared for multiple family pets, medication disposal has always been an issue. In the past, I either flushed old medications down the toilet or threw them in the trash. Then I read that our water supply is becoming contaminated with human and veterinary pharmaceuticals.
Admittedly, I procrastinated finding somewhere to take my unused prescription and over the counter medications until I recently found a designated place to dispose of them.
Proper disposal keeps these drugs out of our drinking water supply and keeps us safe and healthy for the long term.
Bye Bye Paci- How to Slowly Wean from the Pacifier
Weaning from the pacifier can be a tough transition for parents and toddlers. It was a stage I had been dreading, which is why I put it off for months. I was most nervous about my son’s sleeping habits changing so I kept telling myself “we’ll try taking it away next month”. Finally, after my son’s first visit to the dentist, I decided to take the plunge.
The dentist had confirmed what my husband and I already knew and that was that J’s pacifier was causing one his front teeth to stick out quite a bit more than the others. When he broke the news that the pacifier had to go as soon as possible, my heart sunk because I knew it was my fault for holding on. That night my husband and I made a pact to work on phasing out his pacifier right away. [Read more…]
How You Can Prevent Microfiber Pollution
Microfiber pollution is a form of pollution I hadn’t heard of until quite recently. Maybe you haven’t either. This type of pollution basically comes from microfibers that textiles such as synthetic clothing shed during the washing process. Every time we do a load of laundry, our clothing sheds microscopic fibers that end up in our water. They end up in our rivers, lakes, and oceans. From there, these essentially plastic fragments make their way to our [Read more…]
DIY Felt Magnetic Fishing Game
Right now I’m teaching my almost 3-year-old the alphabet. Each week we concentrate on a new letter while introducing letter specific flashcards, crafts, worksheets, books, sensory, and fine motor play. I made this easy DIY Felt Magnetic Fishing Game the week my son was learning the letter F. It’s a simple game for kids that help encourage the development of fine motor skills. This catch and release game can be played with again and again while helping your preschooler develop hand-eye coordination. [Read more…]
A DMB kind of Summer
This weekend I am seeing the Dave Matthews Band for the first time in 2 years. That may not seem like a long time but for me, it feels like an eternity.
I started seeing the Dave Matthews Band in concert in the summer of 2010. My first concert was in West Palm Beach, Florida and I’ll admit, before the show, I wasn’t the biggest DMB fan. My boyfriend, now husband, was obsessed and I liked them well enough so I thought it’d be fun.
Little did I know that that night would change my life forever.
