I have been shaving my face for about a year and guess what…it’s amazing! Face shaving or dermaplaning has become a popular anti-aging trend for a lot of women and I’m definitely one of them. Some of you reading this may be thinking, what the heck, I’m a woman!! But let me tell you that this kind of face shaving is not the same as the manly shave we see our guys do. There are so many Benefits of Face Shaving as a woman—some of which you may never have even thought about.
Have you ever realized how men seem to age slower than women? A lot of older men seem to have fewer wrinkles and tighter skin and it may have something to do with their daily shave. The regular exfoliation and removal of dead skin cells have a wide variety of benefits when it comes to anti-aging.
Face shaving or dermaplaning, a similar hair removal procedure that some women pay top dollar for, can be done at home for a lot less money and in the privacy of your own bathroom! When dermaplaning is professionally done, a scalpel is used, but at home, you can use the Tinkle brand eyebrow razors and they get the job done just as well. I buy mine on Amazon and it’s that easy!
I first got the idea to shave my face from one of my favorite morning radio hosts about a year ago. It took me a bit to finally get the courage to try it but once I did, I’ll never go back. One of the main reasons I decided to start shaving my face is because it’s said to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by exfoliating and removing dead skin cells. What woman wouldn’t be on board with that?!
Personally, I really love that it gets rid of noticeable peach fuzz which helps my makeup go on much smoother. It also allows my creams and serums to absorb better into the skin once that top layer of skin is removed. I feel like I can even see a difference in the way my skin looks—it looks much smoother and brighter. Face shaving is also said to help promote clearer skin by reducing the amount of bacteria that gets trapped on the skin’s surface.
When it comes to shaving my face, this is my normal routine, which I do at night, 1X per week:
- Cleanse my face and pat it dry
- Shave or dermaplane
- Gently apply microneedle derma roller
- Face peel (if I have time and I’m not too tired)
- Apply vitamin C serum
- Night cream
- Pimple medicine

When shaving/dermaplaning, you can do it dry or with a little bit of your facial cleanser still on. I started that way and now I just do it dry.
It’s simple…
- Hold your Tinkle razor in one hand and use the other hand to make your skin a little taught.
- Move up or downward in small fast motions. I tend to go up around my cheekbones and downward around my forehead and upper lip.
- If you’re nervous, start out slow and eventually, your motions will become more fluid.

In conjunction with shaving my face, I also use a microneedle derma roller, which I got on Amazon. The combination is said to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by further exfoliating the skin. I use mine around my eyes where “crows feet” appear, on my forehead in the “t-zone”, and around my smile lines.

If you’re nervous about irritation or that regrowth will be thick or darker than normal, I can only speak for myself, but I have never had that happen nor has anyone that I know. I always try to avoid areas where my face has a breakout or pimple just to avoid any further irritation.
I recommend face shaving to all my girlfriends and just about any women I talk to. It’s a major game changer and if you’re not doing it yet, you’ve got to try it!
