I tried Harry’s shave set for men and guess what? Turns out, women can use it too!
It might seem surprising that a blog all about women would be trying a product very clearly marketed towards men, but you might be surprised at how easily a product like this can translate perfectly for women’s use.
We were sent the Truman starter kit which includes the Truman razor, 2 extra blades, a travel blade cover and shave gel. There’s nothing pink or feminine about it and I think that makes me love it even more. It really allows the products to speak for themselves – and they do.
What I like about Harry’s:
Design – The products are made for simplicity and functionality as well as effectiveness. The Truman handle comes in a few different colors for your preference – I chose green.
Function – Like I said, these razors speak for themselves – especially when it comes to function. The handle is flexible for going with the flow and against the grain. Built for navigating a jawline, it’s even more perfect for navigating lady curves. Until now I had simply resolved myself to have prickly knees and an ever-present patch of hair on my ankles. Not anymore. The handle is slightly weighted, allowing for easy maneuverability.

Price – You can actually do a two week free trial with the Harry’s Shave Club where you get the Truman razor, a travel size shave gel and a travel blade cover for less than $5! And they’re honest with you about choosing your options when the trial is over. There are different plans for what you want, whether it’s just the blade refills or the blades and the shave gel. You can also choose how often you want to receive your package. So it’s not like you’re getting 8 blades every week. You make your own timeline based on how often you shave. Or you can simply buy the $15 Truman Set – what I was sent – and then go from there.
No Pink Tax – I also love that these products aren’t marketed towards women because that means they’re almost automatically cheaper without the Pink Tax. I almost feel like I’m in on a secret. Seriously, do other woman know it’s okay – probably better – to use men’s razors?

Effectiveness – The blades are definitely effective and provide a smooth shave. I did notice that the razors work best with the shave gel. In the past, I shaved with soap because I always seemed more prone to razor burn with feminine shave gel. I’ve didn’t even have a hint of razor burn using Harry’s. For me, it’s almost a catch-22 because one hand – the razor and the shave gel are amazing and work even more amazing together. On the other hand, the razor works best with the shave gel. So as long I’m using Harry’s razors I probably need to be using the shave gel. I’m going to try not to, just to cut back on waste, if I don’t feel like it’s necessary.

Something else to be said – While the smooth shave doesn’t last very long (it never does for me) somehow I feel like the hair on my legs has thinned out. It’s the weirdest thing because even though my hair starts growing back around the same time it normally would, it’s just not as thick. I can feel the prickle but I can’t see it. I don’t know if this is from Harry’s but I know it wasn’t like that before. It’s only on my legs though.

So I think I’m hooked. Before Harry’s I’d never tried a men’s razor and honestly, I didn’t care much about shaving. It was just something that was part of my routine, and I didn’t think about it. But the first time I tried this razor, it was an experience. I put on a hair mask, filled up the tub about halfway, and I just felt like I was pampering myself. Granted, I don’t have that kind of time every time I shave and I’m sure most women don’t – but it’s nice to slow down and use something that feels luxurious. And it’s nice when you don’t have time to slow down.
Overall, this is definitely a great product I’m interested in continuing to use and I think other women would benefit from using it as well. It’s so easy to join the shave club so you longer have to worry about buying new razors. It just makes one less thing to think about.

Looks like a neat little shaving set. Might give it a go.
Sounds like a good razor! I am glad that Harry’s has worked for you. I may try it someday.
I have never tried a men’s razor before and thought I was stuck forever paying the pink tax for lady razors. Now after reading this, I am thinking that is not true and I need to try this razor.
I’ve always wondered about some of these mail shave sets. Good to know there’s a trial! Can’t beat that price!
This is a really awesome shave kit! Love it. I will add this to my list of items for Christmas gifts. Thanks!
I am not a fan of men’s razors I feel like the blades are made more sharper. I think this set is great for a Father’s Day gift or holiday for my Dad.
