I grew up in a house where the holidays were always a big deal. There were a lot of decorations, big family gatherings, and food…lots and lots of food, but there was really only one thing my sisters and I looked forward to: [Read more…]
Baked Cranberry Apple Chips
One of my favorite snacks are baked apple chips because they’re healthy, tasty, and easy to make. They can be baked simply plain or sprinkled with cinnamon, but they’re a real treat when coated with fruit sauces. Cranberry flavored apple chips make a delicious holiday snack. They’re flavorful and have an extra zing. You can also try other fruit sauces like raspberry, which is one of my favorites.
5 Favorite Non-Traditional Holiday Movies
As Thanksgiving and Christmas, or whichever holiday you celebrate approaches, we’re all getting into the holiday spirit! I still have my fall décor out, but I’m thinking I might start early with the Christmas decorations. I just want to enjoy my pumpkins a little longer! One thing some of us like to do to get into the spirit is watching holiday movies!
There are, of course, the classics – A Christmas Story, It’s a Wonderful Life, Elf, Love Actually and the list goes on and on. My favorite types of holiday movies are usually of the more non-traditional variety. Don’t get me wrong, there is always a place in my heart for Home Alone and The Santa Clause, BUT I can’t help but love these few others.
5 Fun Holiday Kids Books
One of my fondest memories growing up involved reading books with my mom. From the time I was a little girl, not even old enough to read myself, she would spend hours reading to my sister and I. From short stories to chapter books, my mother often read anything and everything to us kids.
As an adult, and a new mother, reading books to my young son has become a year ‘round staple in my house. While this is also common for most, it isn’t for all families. Some just pull books out around the holidays, for others, it’s [Read more…]
Revisiting Holiday Traditions
The holidays are a time when many of us honor our most heartfelt traditions. Those traditions usually revolve around our families, our spirituality, and our religion. Sometimes our traditions are deeply intimate. Sometimes they are light and fun. Whatever they are, our traditions are meant to bring us joy and satisfaction.
10 Gifts Under $25 for Everybody!
Yes, I’m aware that Halloween was just last week, but I’m not alone in already thinking about my holiday gift list. You know the stores are already gearing up for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, so let’s face it, whether we’re decorating, planning menus, or gift shopping, the holiday season is upon us! So it’s time to start thinking about that gift list. It never hurts to start getting ideas or start shopping early.
Cranberry Mango & Cranberry Kale Smoothie
With the holidays upon us, our homes will be overflowing with joy, love, and cranberries –well, with all kinds of delicious foods! Unfortunately, most of us throw out more of that food than we’d like to admit. Smoothies and juices are a great way to use a lot of the extra fruits and vegetables we find in our kitchens.
I came up with these smoothie combinations from different fruits and greens that I needed to use up before they went bad. I don’t buy fresh cranberries often, but I know I’ll have plenty of them in the house during the holiday season. They also stay fresh in the fridge for several weeks because of their acidity.
