The holidays are almost here! That means it’s time for parties and get-togethers, and that also means it’s time to start thinking about gifts. One of the gifts that some of us tend to forget until the last minute is a thoughtful hostess gift. We all want to give something gracious and personal to our hostess, but no one wants to look like they just ran into the grocery store and grabbed the first bottle of wine they could find. With these three recipes, you can make your DIY Simmer Pot Gift! Keep the ingredients on hand and put them together quickly and easily for your next holiday get-together.
DIY Simmer Pot Gift
Gather items for one or all of the simmer pot recipes below. To give as a gift, fill a cellophane gift bag with the contents and wrap a ribbon around it. I also used a small jar similar to this one to hold the cloves. These also make great gifts for neighbors, delivery drivers, and co-workers.
Gingerbread House
2 cinnamon sticks (large)
1/2 C. fresh grated ginger
1 Tbsp. vanilla
1/2 Tbsp cloves (whole)
Apple Pie
1 large apple-sliced
2 cinnamon sticks (large)
1 Tbsp. cloves (whole)
½ tsp. ginger
Cranberry Delight
1 C. fresh cranberries
1 sliced orange (dry out with a dehydrator)
2-3 cinnamon sticks
1/2 Tbsp. cloves (whole)
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 or 2 sprigs of fresh rosemary
Directions
Fill your slow cooker with 15 cups of water and empty the contents of one of the above recipes. Set it to low and refill the water parodically when it gets low. Simple as that!

Simmer pots are a fun and easy way to add the holiday spirit to any home. Simply add the ingredients to a pot of water on the stove or to a slow cooker. Bring the ingredients to a boil and then turn down the heat to a slow simmer and let the aroma carry through the house. If using a pot on the stovetop, you’ll have to be more mindful of refilling the water as it gets low. A slow cooker will go a lot longer without needing to be refilled.
