This easy DIY Fruit and Veggie Wash is made with items you probably already have in your pantry, so there’s no excuse for not washing your fruits and vegetables before each use. This simple wash is a great way to remove pesticides, dirt, and other contaminants from the surface of your produce. Plus, it’s easy to make and inexpensive.
DIY Fruit and Veggie Wash
1/2 cup of White Vinegar
1 tbsp. salt
1 tbsp. lemon juice (optional)
2 cps. Water
1 tbsp. Baking Soda
Directions:
In a bowl with a spout, mix the vinegar, water, salt, baking soda, and lemon juice. Mix until bubbles have subsided.
Using a funnel, add the mixture to the bottle.
Swirl slightly to combine.
Spray, rub, rinse & dry fruits and vegetables before you eat.
If you’re washing your fruit and veggies before storing, be sure to dry the fruit completely and then store it in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
Use this DIY Fruit and Veggie Wash to spray off your fruits and veggies before use. After spraying, gently wipe with your hands to coat the skin and then rinse. Wipe clean with a towel. You can also use this wash to soak fruits like strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries.
I use this spray daily on most fruits and vegetables, even ones you might not think to wash before eating, like avocados. The skin is ultimately thrown out, but before you do that, you are cutting into the avocado and spreading any germs and bacteria on the outside to the inside. The spray is easy to make and quick to use. I keep a bottle under my sink for easy access. You might also want to keep a bottle on the counter so you don’t forget to use it.
