For the last couple of Ipsy Reviews, I’ve contemplated canceling my subscription in hopes of trying something new. Well, after some research I realized that Ipsy is one of the best make-up boxes out there. It’s cheap, only $10 a month and no extra shipping cost; you get five personalized items, one of which is full size. You also receive cute bags every month. So, I don’t think I’ll be canceling anytime soon.
That being said, December’s Ipsy Bag was super cute. They were going for a bag that can also be a clutch, with a wristlet strap – perfect for the holiday season. The products themselves weren’t particularly exciting but there were two definite winners.
See my review of the products I received below:
Marc Anthony True Professional
Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco Deep Hydrating Treatment
I’ve always said I’m not a big fan of receiving hair products in my bags but then I get them and I love them! I just don’t use them enough; I’d rather get something that I will use more often. The bottle says use weekly; I’d probably use it less than that. When trying it for this review, it proved to be effective as a deep conditioner. My hair definitely felt hydrated and soft after I used this product. An 8.4 oz. bottle retails for $7.99 at Ulta. There’s also a smaller 1.69 oz. packet size retailing for $2.99.
NYX Professional Makeup
Prismatic Shadow
Bedroom Eyes –I was disappointed this month when, for the first time, I received a broken product. This eyeshadow was in pieces inside the container. Luckily, there are plenty of videos and tutorials on how to fix broken eyeshadows. The color, Bedroom Eyes, is a beautiful metallic bronzy-brown. It’s perfect for anyone with blue eyes (which I have). After I fixed it, I was able to try it and confirm what I already knew – that I would like it. The formula is quite pigmented and blends well with other shadows. You can buy it at Ulta for $5.99, but I probably wouldn’t purchase it because even though I like the shade, it’s not really unique. Maybe if I tried a different shade I would purchase it.
REN Clean Skincare
Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask
I was not excited about this product. I was even less excited about it when I tried it. It’s described as a hydrating and renewal mask. When I put it on, it’s like applying a sticky coat of honey to my face that smells like citrus. Maybe that’s what you need, a hydrating mask, to reinvigorate your skin; I’m just not really a fan of this kind of mask. My skin is more on the oily side so I prefer the mud style mask. Plus, this product retails for $55 at Sephora. At that price I think I’d rather use the honey. (You can read about DIY Honey Face Masks here).
Benefit Cosmetics
the POREfessional Face Primer
I absolutely love this product. There are so many great things about this product – it’s tinted (but just a little), it smells amazing, and it feels amazing. It goes on so smooth and doesn’t sit too thick on your face. It’s not terribly expensive for a brand-name primer that works so well. The small size is 0.25 oz. and retails for $12 at Ulta. The larger size is 0.75oz. and retails for $31 at Ulta as well. All in all, this is a really great product and I would 100% recommend.
Ciaté London
Liquid Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick in Pin Up
This product may actually tie for favorite of the month with the above primer. I haven’t really delved too far into liquid lipsticks and I’m seeing now that’s a mistake. This liquid lipstick is wonderful. Ipsy always seems to pick the perfect shade of lip color for me – a dark berry color. It glides on the lips very light and smooth (completely living up to its name) and lasts quite a long time. The only issue I have with this product is that the formula tends to clump a little on the inside part of my lips that touch each other. It’s not terrible but I find myself wiping away small clumps throughout the day. I will definitely wear this product and would highly recommend it. It retails at $19 on at Sephora.
Overall this month’s Ipsy bag wasn’t my favorite set of products, but it had a few winners. The primer and the liquid lipstick were two of my favorites. I am always buying primer and lipstick so I would definitely buy these products in the future. I’d also like to point out that the value of this bag is $118.99, which is more than any total bag value since I’ve been reviewing Ipsy.
