I am always surprised by how many of my friends and family don’t really know anything about shapewear. I’ve been wearing it for years, specifically thigh shapers and I can’t imagine not wearing them. I’m also a big fan of dresses and skirts so that could have something to do with it.
Shapewear, though, has so many more uses than just shaping your body underneath your clothes. I wear them for a lot of reasons and I think if you knew them, you might understand my near obsession with shapewear.
3 Reasons I love Shapewear:
No Chaffing: Like I said, I love dresses and skirts, but the downside to them is that my thighs rub together when I walk. It’s the worst when it’s hot and humid outside because it’s almost impossible to walk without chaffing. But when I wear shapewear on my thighs like an extra set of underwear, there’s no chaffing because the material on each leg just slips off of each other and it’s glorious.
*Chaffing is a rash made when skin rubs together, usually occurring between your legs or under your arms.

Conceals Everything: I’m not really sure how much my generation is concerned with see-through clothing because it’s actually pretty trendy, but I’m not into it. I like to keep what’s underneath concealed, which is another advantage of shapewear. I know slips used to be the popular thing for concealment but do people even wear slips anymore? I wore one for years before I knew about shapewear and I hated it. The slips would always ride up my thighs and defeat the purpose of wearing one. Now I just wear the leg shapewear and don’t even worry about if my dress is see-through or not. Even if it’s not, I’m still going to wear them because of the first reason. Also, BONUS, I never have to worry about what color my underwear is because it won’t show through with shapewear on!
Holds Everything Together: This one is obvious but very true – especially if it’s full-body shapewear. I don’t usually wear full-body shapewear all the time, but it’s nice for fancy dresses and special occasions. I typically wear thigh shapers with tummy control every day. They’re perfect for hiding lines and smoothing any natural lumpiness, making for a nice silhouette.
Shapers can get kind of hot sometimes, but it’s also a sense of freedom when I wear them. I know I’d rather someone accidentally see the shapewear than what’s underneath. I just feel secure when I wear them.

Shapewear sounds great. I would love to try one. Thanks for sharing.
I super agree with your post! I started wearing shapewear under skirts and under culottes and they give you all the comfort you need. Being curvy I definitely love it!
I haven’t worn shapewear much. Mostly because I opt for loose fitting clothes. But I have started to look into good options for my bridal events this year.
Yes! Finally something about olympic 2021.
